Environmental Engineering

Sierra West works extensively on environmental cleanup projects for private and governmental clients in California. Complex technical and regulatory issues require strategic solutions to eliminate environmental liabilities and return an impaired property to economic viability. Sierra West has the expertise and experience with a wide range of hazardous materials over a wide range of industries across multiple governmental oversight agencies.

Site Investigations & Alternative Evaluations

Through discovery, investigation, and cleanup, Sierra West has extensive experience in: identifying the nature and extent of hazardous substances; preparing alternative evaluations, feasibility studies, corrective action plans, and remedial action designs; conducting bench- and pilot-scale tests; and implementing remedial measures. Through this experience, we have a broad knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and permitting requirements regarding the identification, assessment, removal, remediation, containment, and/or disposal of hazardous substances. We are well suited to develop long-range plans to restore a property’s value, as well as conducting the field operations for site cleanup.

Bench & Pilot-Scale Studies

Sierra West has designed and implemented bench-scale tests from standard jar tests to more robust triplicate destructive tests. We have designed and managed recreation of aquifer conditions in an aquarium to simulate groundwater flow conditions and applied various treatment additives.

Sierra West has conducted numerous field-scale pilot tests ranging from air sparge and SVE tests to elaborate side-by-side biocide injection tests using cutting-edge biomonitoring ATP field test kits.

Final Remedy Designs, Implementation, & Site Closure

As the environmental consultant, Sierra West guides the environmental process to achieve project objectives in a timely cost-effective manner. Critical decisions need to be understood in terms of their advantages, costs, and risks. Collaborative teamwork among the Owner, Regulatory Agencies, and Consultants leads to confident decisions and successful projects.

Sierra West maintains an active contractor's Class A license with a hazardous waste removal certification in the State of California. As a contractor, we are able to appreciate the Owner's, Designer's, and Contractor's perspective while implementing environmental projects.
